I have blogged on WordPress for the last year and I have decided to have a change and move to Tumblr.

It is simple fresh and the user experience is nice.

I have transferred all my old posts from here and I will keep this up for a short while to make sure that if you are used to coming to this blog you know where to go.

My new blog is at michaelcheshire.tumbr.com

I hope you like the change!

Wow,

time has disappeared so quickly, I feel like uni was not that long ago when I was slogging my guts out.

That time has passed and I have been keeping myself busy and always kept up to date with the latest in the ad world.

Probably tweeting and retweeting about the whole bonanza so much that I instantly forget about one thing as I am bombarded by another.

I came out of uni with a First Class, which I am absolutely chuffed with.

Straight after university, I went up to London for a month (was meant to be 3 but the company didn’t help me with my £600 expenses, so that finished quite abruptly. Not that I wanted it to. But I did learn a lot.

After a short break away I came back with the idea of starting up my own little business, Mix Creations, doing freelance work, but the market is extremely saturated and with not much in the way of portfolio work, I have decided to set that to the side. After working with a friend to help get his own little website online, it helped me to understand that I really appreciate working on projects and learning at this point in time rather than running a business despite both being a good challenge.

Hopefully getting back to this blog shall bring along more postings!

I may not be in the industry (just yet), but Ogilvy certainly have the right to blow their own trumpet every once in a while, but I think there is more to Shakira‘s music video becoming viral.

If you are not exactly sure, what I am on about, or if you have been living on your own on a deserted island, then here it is.

At the moment it has over 96 million views on YouTube alone.

Ogilvy are one of the biggest agencies in the world and that is because they can create some great campaigns, but some things have everything set-up right in front of them. This has.

Shakira, a fairly famous singer (I knew of her existence before this), was picked to create and sing the song with the South African band Freshlyground and for it to be the official World Cup song.

So from that point, there is bound to be some interest in the song as World Cup hype around the world has been quite massive!

And official viewing figures show that there were over 5.9 billion viewers worldwide – a chance that some might like the song and want to hear it again…where to watch it? YouTube might be a good starting point.

I did my dissertation this last year on Viral videos and had a decent dive into understanding why people want to watch such things.

The main points I found were that a viral has to be:

  • Relevant – it is World Cup related!
  • Engaging – Some high quality work etc.
  • Original – the official World Cup song.

As well as placing it where it is easy to share and talk about, and by seeding it to influencers on blogs, twitter etc.

The song was talked about in the media and probably drove a good proportion of people to go and see it.

This video was relatively easy to pull off and has created some great rewards for the company.

Well done Ogilvy.

It has been a hectic month this last month as I have had plenty to keep myself occupied so unfortunately my blog has had little attention.

Apologies to anyone who tries to look on here regularly! Thanks and I shall try to post something worthwhile more often.

When uni finished I worked on a competition brief with someone from uni for the GRT Awards on some Waitrose branding. I will put the work up onto my website once it is done (WIP), as the D&AD exhibition begins today up in London, not sure whether that is open to the public just yet…

Since I finished work on that I have began an internship with a small web agency in London. And we are hoping to break into the market soon. Once things are online and running I shall be posting links and you can see what I have been working on.

Ciao for now.

Over the past couple of months I have been seeing these amazing ads for Lurpak.

They just makes me want to eat….*dribbles*

..and eat…

I am surprised that I am not fat yet..

Anyway, back to this campaign..
The idea is so simple, how homemade food is so much better than shop bought stuff,
and you can make it all with a bit of Lurpak butter!

The billboards first caught my ad-seeking eyes and made me think of the possibilities, for baking and cooking – a sometimes necessary pastime. But it makes me want to do it!

The billboards:

The campaign also has a TV ad which is amazing too!

And now that I am looking into it, I can see that they have included a social media campaign too…

It has a micro-site at www.bakeclub.co.uk and is integrated with Facebook and Flickr so that people can talk about what they have made and can upload their awesome things for all to see!

Brilliant use of media on top of a super idea. Might need to get to some baking/super-cooking when I get a chance!

I wish I had done this, then I could have enjoyed all the good food while making it! haha

Last week I had my final presentation for university, it was very successful and the effort of putting the presentation together the couple of days before hand helped tremendously. For the final part of our professionally created and costed advertising campaign, I created some simple illustrations for the 3 tiered costing for the campaign. I created some simple thermometers with varying heights to illustrate which budget we were looking at. Needless to say the presentation went down like a house on fire, we all had a laugh and hopefully the marks for it are well on their way.

Here are my costing thermometers:

Well I havn’t posted in a while and I am neglecting my blog.
I was getting a bit bored with editing my video and so just thought I would play with photoshop and an idea I have been tossing about in my head. I worked on Monster Munch a few months ago and due to some creative partner troubles never got to make ideas into reality.

What do you think? A 48 sheet billboard.

I just found this little fun timewaster which was obviously inspired by the last couple of weeks events…

from Miniclip.com

I will get back to work…

Have fun escaping!
